PSX Closing Bell: A Step in the Right Direction

August 05, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 143,037.16, showing an increase of 984.52 points or 0.69%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 143,281.34 (+1,228.70) and a low of 142,235.71 (+183.07) points.

Total traded volume on the KSE-100 stood at 262.32 million shares.

Going forward, better than anticipated result season and consistent positive news flows will likely keep bears at the bay, Ali Najib, Deputy Head of Trading at Arif Habib Limited told Mettis Global.

However, 140k will likely act as a strong support level in case of any correction, if arrives, he added.

 

Of the 100 index companies 55 closed up, 45 closed down.

Top gainers during the day were NESTLE (+10.00%), NML (+9.51%), FHAM (+5.85%), FATIMA (+5.40%), and YOUW (+4.78%).

On the other hand, top losers were GHGL (-1.58%), CNERGY (-1.49%), LCI (-1.49%), AIRLINK (-1.28%), and PPL (-1.27%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were FFC (+273.55pts), MCB (+113.32pts), UBL (+111.09pts), EFERT (+90.63pts), and HUBC (+90.18pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were PPL (-51.02pts), BAHL (-50.99pts), PSO (-39.88pts), MARI (-34.85pts), and OGDC (-23.30pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Fertilizer (+431.43pts), Commercial Banks (+167.36pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+119.28pts), Cement (+91.65pts), and Textile Composite (+89.65pts).

While the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-109.82pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-41.03pts), Technology & Communication (-27.52pts), Chemical (-14.98pts), and Refinery (-11.34pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 88,422.06 with a net gain of 590.27 points or 0.67%.

Total market volume was 549.72 million shares compared to 666.37m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs37.04 billion showing a decrease of Rs5.88bn.

There were 339,999 trades reported in 484 companies with 239 closing up, 217 closing down, and 28 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 17,410 points or 13.86% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 27,910 points or 24.24% so far this calendar year.
