PSX Closing Bell: Running on Empty

April 21, 2021 (MLN): The KSE-100 Index witnessed a volatile session today as it swung between positive and negative poles throughout the session.

The market opened on a bullish note, however, later on, it lost the impetus and concluded the session in the red zone amid profit-taking by the investors as NCOC hinted towards lockdown in major cities which shattered investors’ confidence. Moreover, investors seemed somewhat despondent of the financial results announced by MLCF and NPL during the day.

As a result, the index ended slightly down by shedding just 93 points to 45,306-level i.e. only 0.21% lower than the previous closing.

The Index traded in a range of 400.39 points or 0.88 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 45,625.30 and a low of 45,224.91.

Of the 96 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 30 closed up 65 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 171.32 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Cement with 76 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 45 points, Engineering with 24 points, Refinery with 20 points, and Chemical with 18 points.

The most points taken off the index was by LUCK which stripped the index of 28 points followed by FFC with 22 points, POL with 18 points, OGDC with 16 points, and ISL with 15 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Technology & Communication with 72 points, Commercial Banks with 59 points, Fertilizer with 18 points, Textile Composite with 4 points, and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 3 points.

The most points added to the index was by TRG which contributed 89 points followed by ENGRO with 37 points, NBP with 22 points, KTML with 18 points, and EFERT with 13 points.

All Share Volume increased by 44.63 Million to 387.91 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.36.97 Billion.

Total companies traded were 388 compared to 401 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 111 closed up, 260 closed down while 17 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 19,364 to 135,369.

Value Traded increased by 5.13 Billion to Rs.19.34 Billion
