PSX Close: KSE-100 Index down 441 points

August 26, 2022 (MLN): Pakistan equities witnessed a rangebound activity amid a lack of positive triggers in the early hours, making an intraday high of 43,201.43 (+168.86 points). However, profit booking was witnessed across the board in the later hours which led the benchmark KSE-100 index to settle at 42,591.51 with a loss of over 441 points, marking an intraday low of 42,546.48.
Investors' sentiments were dampened on the rising political noise and continuous depreciation of PKR against the US dollar.
Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 19 closed up 72 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 160.26 million shares.
Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 86 points, Technology & Communication with 64 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 61 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 48 points and Cement with 38 points.
The most points taken off the index was by PSO which stripped the index of 59 points followed by TRG with 31 points, HUBC with 31 points, MTL with 30 points and HBL with 28 points.
Sectors propping up the index were Food & Personal Care Products with 7 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 4 points, Cable & Electrical Goods with 3 points and Miscellaneous with 2 points.
The most points added to the index was by KEL which contributed 8 points followed by UNITY with 8 points, FATIMA with 8 points, SCBPL with 8 points and COLG with 4 points.
All share volume increased by 57.64mn to 265.75mn shares. Market cap decreased by Rs40.41 billion.
Total companies traded were 331 compared to 343 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 90 closed up, 218 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.
Total trades increased by 10,271 to 113,822.
