PM inaugurates digital licensing system for medical devices

July 21,2025 (MLN): The Digital System for Licensing and Registration of Medical Devices was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, streamlining the registration process to be completed online within 20 days.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized swift and transparent decision-making, noting that a process that once took years will now be completed in the shortest possible time.

He expressed confidence in Pakistan's ability to revolutionize the medical sector, as per the press release issued today.

Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal highlighted that the new system eliminates human intervention, allowing applicants to submit requests online from home, with licenses to be issued within 20 days.

As per the Ministry of Health, this digitisation initiative by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) covers licensing and registration of all medical devices, from wheelchairs to MRI machines.

It also aims to ensure public access to quality, safe, and effective products in a timely manner.

The Ministry further stated that reforms in the health sector are progressing rapidly under the leadership of Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, and that Pakistan’s pharmaceutical and medical device industry holds strong economic promise.
