PKR strengthens nearly 3 paisa against USD

September 08, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar on Tuesday, gaining 2.90 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.37 per dollar, compared with Monday’s close of PKR 277.40.

During the trading session, the rupee moved between an intraday high (bid) of PKR 277.60 and a low (ask) of PKR 277.35.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 278.40 for selling.

The local currency also posted gains against most major currencies.

Against the Euro, the rupee appreciated by 57.46 paisa, or 0.18%, to settle at PKR 322.15, compared with PKR 322.73 in the previous session.

The rupee gained 39.99 paisa, or 0.11%, against the British Pound, closing at PKR 375.27 versus PKR 375.67 a day earlier.

Similarly, the local unit strengthened by 88.19 paisa, or 0.26%, against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 342.10.

However, the rupee weakened against the Japanese Yen, losing 0.33 paisa, or 0.18%, to close at PKR 1.8027 compared with PKR 1.7994 previously.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee gained 0.53 paisa, or 0.01%, settling at PKR 41.33 from PKR 41.34.

The rupee also appreciated against the Saudi Riyal by 1.76 paisa, or 0.02%, to PKR 73.86, while it strengthened by 1.20 paisa, or 0.02%, against the UAE Dirham to close at PKR 75.52.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 78.86 paisa, or 0.28%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, the local currency has gained PKR 2.75, representing an appreciation of 0.99%.

Meanwhile, money market rates edged higher, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increasing by 1 basis point to 11.63% and 11.88%, respectively.
