September 22, 2025 (MLN): Merit Packaging Limited (PSX: MERIT) has released its financial results for the year ended June 30, 2025, showing a steep decline in performance that resulted in a substantial net loss of three times the previous year.

The company's profitability was severely impacted by a sharp contraction in revenue and rising operational costs.

According to the statement of profit or loss, the company recorded a loss for the year of Rs599.67m, a significant reversal from the loss of Rs186.36m in the previous year.

This translates to a loss per share of Rs. 3.00, compared to Rs. 0.93 in FY24, representing a 3x increase in per-share loss.

The primary driver of this downturn was a 20.4% decrease in revenue from Rs6.64bn to Rs5.28bn.

Despite a reduction in the cost of sales, the decline in revenue was so steep that it turned the gross profit of Rs458.11m in FY24 into a gross loss of Rs28.73m in FY25.

The company also faced a significant increase in administrative expenses, which rose by 44.2% to Rs214.41m.

While financial charges saw a favorable decrease of 48%, this was not enough to offset the substantial losses from operations.

The company's operating loss widened dramatically  to Rs350.30m, a stark contrast to the operating profit of Rs.248.57m in the previous year.
