KP Govt imposes 60-day ban on mining in Karak to curb illegal activities

September 23, 2025 (MLN):  The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has imposed a 60-day ban on all mining and gold exploration activities in Karak district in a bid to curb rising incidents of illegal mining.

The Home Department has enforced Section 144, prohibiting individuals and organizations from engaging in mining operations during this period, as APP reported.

 The decision, officials said, was taken to protect lives, property, and the environment.

Authorities highlighted that illegal mining not only causes severe environmental degradation but also poses a threat to law and order, with some cases reportedly linked to smuggling networks.

The Home Department warned that violators of the ban will face strict legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Penalties include confiscation of machinery and vehicles, fines, imprisonment, or both.

Officials stressed that the temporary ban aims to deter unlawful elements and safeguard the province’s valuable mineral resources.
