June 26, 2025 (MLN): The government has secured successful negotiations with 36 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) over outstanding electricity dues, which will result in substantial savings of Rs3.69 trillion for the national treasury.

This was stated during a review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to assess the progress of ongoing reforms in the power sector.

The meeting focused on key developments in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, as per the press release issued.

During the briefing, it was outlined that the federal government has successfully completed the solarization of tube wells in Balochistan.

This initiative is expected to significantly boost agricultural production and enhance farmers’ incomes.

To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to industries, work is underway to shift industrial consumers to dedicated transmission lines.

This move is expected to increase industrial production, reduce imports, and improve export performance.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for swift action in completing the installation of smart meters and instructed that a report be submitted promptly.

He also stressed the importance of prioritizing the completion of environmentally friendly and low-cost renewable energy projects to provide relief to the public.
