Govt steps up climate adaptation to safeguard agriculture

August 21, 2025 (MLN): The government of Pakistan intensified efforts to address climate change impacts on agriculture and food systems, with officials warning that water scarcity and low productivity posed critical threats to national food security.

During an interactive session with officers of the 38th Senior Management Course on Thursday, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik outlined mitigation and adaptation measures.

He said the Ministry had prioritized initiatives to build resilience in climate sensitive sectors and ensure sustainable food systems for the country’s growing population.

Malik emphasized the importance of localized innovative solutions to improve water efficiency and agricultural productivity.

He added that practical steps at the tehsil and district levels, led by local administrations and communities, were central to advancing national climate and food security objectives.
