September 03, 2025 (MLN): The federal government has directed urgent restoration of communication and power transmission systems in flood-hit areas and emphasized immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.

Chairing the meeting remotely from China, the Prime Minister stressed that federal and provincial governments, along with all institutions, must work in full coordination to assist affected families, relocate them to safer areas, and restore damaged infrastructure.

He instructed authorities to give special focus to relief operations in Punjab and Sindh and ordered the swift completion of searches for those still missing due to floods.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) briefed the meeting on the rising flood situation in the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers, where continuous monitoring and regulation of dams and barrages are underway.

NDMA is cooperating with provincial administrations at key sites including Trimmu, Balloki, Sadhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, and Sulemanki to mitigate potential flood threats.

Authorities warned of severe flooding at Panjnad following inflows from the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers, with the floodwaters expected to reach Guddu Barrage by Saturday afternoon.

In Sindh, NDMA is closely coordinating with the provincial government to ensure proper arrangements ahead of the expected flood.

Rescue 1122, Pakistan Army, Rangers, NGOs, and provincial disaster management authorities are carrying out joint relief operations in the affected areas, where relief supplies are being dispatched regularly and efforts are underway to restore electricity and damaged infrastructure.

Lately, Punjab has been hit by flash floods that wiped out thousands of acres of crops, triggering a deepening economic and humanitarian crisis.

Preliminary assessments by the Pakistan Business Forum show around 60% of rice and 30% of sugarcane crops destroyed, with cotton production expected to fall by 35% compared to the annual target.

The floods have displaced two million people and killed more than 850 nationwide, according to Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik.
