April 3, 2026 (MLN): The government has initiated significant progress on the Karachi Port–Hyderabad M-10 Motorway project, directing a team of top-tier engineers from the National Highway Authority (NHA) to immediately begin feasibility studies and preliminary groundwork to ensure a strong technical foundation for the project.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority, where he described the Karachi Port–Hyderabad M-10 Motorway as a vital lifeline for Pakistan’s economy, according to a press release issued.

He emphasized that the project will strengthen port connectivity and help reduce congestion caused by heavy vehicles and container traffic entering Karachi.

The minister stated that the M-10 Motorway will be an extensive eight-lane project and directed the NHA to hire international consultants to ensure world-class construction and design standards.

Calling it the “future of the nation,” he stressed the need for efficient and transparent utilization of all available resources to deliver maximum public benefit.

To enhance commuter experience and promote local economic activity, he also instructed that modern rest areas and shopping facilities be established every 10 kilometers along the route.

During the meeting, the minister expressed confidence that with timely resource allocation and effective management, the project could be completed within two years.

He also rejected claims about the NHA being a defaulter, terming such perceptions misleading and not reflective of the authority’s actual financial standing.

The session further highlighted international backing for Pakistan’s infrastructure sector.

Officials informed the meeting that on March 25, 2026, the OPEC Fund for International Development approved a $230 million three-tranche loan to support Section 3 of the Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, advancing efforts toward a fully integrated national motorway network.
