China records strong enterprise growth during 14th five-year plan

August 22, 2025 (MLN): China has recorded a net increase of nearly 20 million enterprises since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025), the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced on Friday.

Luo Wen, head of SAMR, said the improved business environment during this period has fully stimulated entrepreneurial vitality across society.

Alongside enterprise growth, the country also saw a net increase of about 34 million self-employed households, as APP reported.

To safeguard fair competition and maintain market order, the administration has stepped up action against monopolies.

Measures include enhancing risk monitoring and assessment in key sectors, strengthening oversight of the platform economy, and setting clear boundaries to curb unfair practices in the online market.

According to Luo, SAMR has also worked to optimize regulatory mechanisms by streamlining approval processes and reducing corporate costs.

In addition, tailored assistance programs and loan support have been provided to help enterprises pursue quality-driven growth.

Looking ahead, the administration plans to further advance fair and unified market regulation while promoting standardized, impartial, and civilized law enforcement, contributing to a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment.
