July 23, 2025 (MLN): The fifth interactive session was held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan to review progress on 89 judicial reform initiatives, 26 of which have been successfully completed, 44 are underway, and 14 are set to begin soon, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi.

The session was attended by the Registrar Supreme Court, Mr. Muhammad Salim Khan; development expert Mr. Sher Shah (joining online from France); and IT expert Mr. Hamayun Zafar.

Also in attendance were section heads from the Supreme Court’s Principal Seat and Branch Registries, the Senior Director of the Federal Judicial Academy, and a representative of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP).

During the meeting, the Chief Justice was briefed on substantial headway made under the reform agenda aimed at enhancing service delivery and expanding access to justice nationwide.

He was also informed of a significant reduction in case pendency as a direct outcome of these reforms, as per the press release issued.

While reviewing key areas such as case categorization, document scanning, and the Case Management System, the Chief Justice expressed concern over delays, particularly in case categorization.

He directed the relevant departments to expedite the completion of these tasks before the next review meeting.

Reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to a citizen-centric approach, he emphasized that the delivery of timely and effective justice is both a constitutional obligation and a moral imperative.

He concluded the session by commending the contributions of judicial officers, technical experts, and policy advisors, reiterating the Supreme Court’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and transparency in building an equitable justice system.
