September 10, 2025 (MLN): The federal cabinet informed climate emergency and agriculture emergency after consultations in view of the human and economic losses caused by floods.

Chairing the cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said a committee headed by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal was constituted to deal with the situation arising from floods.

An apex-level meeting was also held with the participation of the four chief ministers to formulate a policy response.

The Prime Minister said the floods had claimed about one thousand lives and left thousands injured, while an assessment of damages to crops was underway.

He emphasized that alongside the federation’s contribution, provincial governments also had to play their role.

Regarding his recent visit to China, Shehbaz Sharif termed the Beijing business conference highly productive, which resulted in $8.5 billion worth of joint ventures and MOUs.

He said Ahsan Iqbal would visit China on the 26th of this month for the formal launch of CPEC 2.0, which would focus on agriculture, mines and minerals, B2B investment and special economic zones. For the Karakoram Highway project, Chinese investment would account for 85%.

He further highlighted the MOU signed with the US for investment in mines and minerals and reaffirmed that Pakistan would improve its relations with the US while giving new momentum to its strategic partnership with China.

Paying tribute to the armed forces for their sacrifices in the war against terrorism, the Prime Minister said the nation was proud of its martyrs and strongly condemned propaganda against the armed forces and their leadership, stressing the collective responsibility to counter such actions.
