January 22, 2026 (MLN): The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) have entered into a formal partnership to deepen cooperation on research and policy work focused on fostering competitive and inclusive markets across the country.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two institutions will collaborate on joint studies, policy analysis, and evidence-based recommendations to support effective competition policy, according to a press release issued.

The agreement also aims to enhance knowledge sharing and capacity building between the organizations.

The MoU was signed by Salman Amin, Member CCP, and Dr Sajid Amin Javed, Deputy Executive Director SDPI, in a ceremony attended by CCP Chairman Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri, and senior officials from both sides.

Speaking at the event, Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said the partnership would enable a joint review of legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure they remain aligned with evolving market dynamics.

He noted that the collaboration would contribute to the development of high-quality research and data-driven insights to inform sound policy decisions, stressing the importance of markets that serve consumers and businesses broadly while discouraging monopolistic and oligopolistic behavior.

Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri said the collaboration would strengthen analytical support for government decision-making.

He added that joint research initiatives would help identify practical solutions to sectoral challenges and encourage policies that support healthy competition.

The agreement sets out a structured framework for long-term cooperation in research, policy dialogue, and institutional development, with the objective of promoting fair, transparent, and efficient markets in Pakistan.
