March 11, 2026 (MLN): Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce
& Industry (GCCI) raised key concerns of the business community during a
meeting with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial,
as they highlighted issues related to tax refunds, super tax installments, and
other operational challenges affecting businesses.
The FBR chairman assured that the issues would be reviewed
and that legitimate refunds would be issued after completion of due process and
codal formalities, according to a press release issued.
The meeting was attended by GCCI President Muhammad Ali
Hamayoun Butt, Senior Vice President Saad Jamil Isfani, Vice President Faisal
Sattar Mughal, Secretary General Asfand Yar, Mahr Ikram Raza, and Shawaiz Bin
Ahmed. Senior FBR officials, including Member (IR–Operations), Member
(IR–Policy), Member (Customs–Policy), and Chief (F&C), were also present.
During the interaction, GCCI representatives apprised the
FBR chairman of several policy and operational issues confronting the business
community.
In response, FBR Chairman stated that tax policy formulation
has been transferred to the Ministry of Finance, while the FBR’s mandate is
mainly confined to the implementation and operational aspects of tax
administration.
He directed the relevant wings of the FBR to review the
issues raised and respond appropriately to address the difficulties faced by
the business community at the earliest possible stage.
The chairman emphasized that while implementing tax
policies, due consideration would be given to the legitimate hardships of
businesses, while reiterating that all legally due taxes would be recovered
strictly in accordance with the law.
Rashid Langrial also assured that no FBR official would be
allowed to create undue difficulties or seek any favour from taxpayers.
He encouraged the business community to report any corrupt
elements within the FBR system with credible evidence, assuring strict
disciplinary action against those found involved in corrupt practices.
