Banks to remain open this weekend for tax collection

May 22, 2026 (MLN): The State Bank of Pakistan has directed all commercial banks to remain open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24, 2026, to facilitate over-the-counter (OTC) payment of government duties and taxes.

The move comes on the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), with the directive covering all commercial banks including NBP branches handling customs collection.

Banks have also been instructed to keep relevant branches open throughout Sunday for as long as necessary to support Special Clearing for government transactions processed through NIFT, according to a press release issued.

Additionally, banks are required to ensure uninterrupted availability of all digital payment channels including internet banking, mobile applications, ATMs, and other online platforms so that taxpayers can make payments without visiting a branch.
