May 09, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s workers’ remittances reached around $3.2 billion in April 2025, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) today.
This represents a 30.9% YoY increase compared to April 2024 and a 27.3% fall from the previous month.
Cumulatively, with an inflow of $31.21bn, workers’ remittances increased by 31% during Jul-April, FY25, compared to $23.9bn received during Jul-Apr FY24.
Remittances inflows during April 2025 were mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia ($20.9 million), United Arab Emirates ($657.6 million), United Kingdom ($535.3 million) and the United States of America ($302.4 million).
It is important to note that remittance inflows in March reached $4.1bn, supporting the external balance. Monthly inflows are currently averaging $3bn and are expected to stay above this level in the final quarter of FY25, said SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad stated during a post-MPS analyst briefing earlier this week.
Full-year remittances are projected to exceed $38bn, further strengthening the current account, which is now expected to post a surplus for FY25, he added.
