Weekly SPI decreases by 0.10 Percent

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, weekly SPI decreased by 0.10 percent compared to the previous week (Mar 15, 2018) and decreased by 2.02 percent compared to the corresponding week (Mar 24, 2017) from the previous year.

Of the 53 items monitored, the prices of 11 items registered an increase, 9 decreased while 34 remained unchanged.

Of the items registering an increase in the prices food group dominated due to seasonal effects on the demand and supply dynamics. Amongst the notable food items the 1kg of tomatoes, pulse moong, red chilly, vegetable ghee, pulse gram, sugar, eggs (dozen), cooking oil 2.5kg and basmati rice 1kg posted an uptick.

On the flipside, the prices of 1kg of onions, potatoes, garlic, pulse mash, chicken farm, pulse masoor, bananas (dozen) and 1 bar of Lifebuoy soap registered posted a decline.

Furthermore, prices of the rest of the 34 items on under observations remained relatively unchanged.
