June 17, 2022 (MLN): To combat the shortfall between the supply and demand of the electricity, the government of Sindh on Friday announced an energy conservation plan as per which all the markets and shopping malls will be closed by 9 pm.

All the restaurants and cafes shall be closed by 11 pm while marriage halls will remain open till 10:30 pm.

However, medical stores, milk shops, bakeries, and petrol pumps are exempted from this order.

The aforesaid order will remain enforced with immediate effect till July 17, 2022.

Amid the ongoing situation of power outages, there is an urgent need to take the effective measures for the conservation of energy in Sindh Province through a two-pronged balanced approach i.e., to utilize the daylight hours for business activities; and to minimize the possible adverse impact on the business activities, the notice read.

In view of the decision taken by the Federal Cabinet on June 7, 2022, to take effective measures to reduce the load shedding hours through conservation of the energy; and to prevent and minimize the impacts of anticipated energy shortfall in Pakistan through the implementation of a National Strategy for tackling the Energy Crisis, it is necessary and expedient to enforce certain restrictions, it added.
