Sale of passenger cars grows by 20% MoM in September

October 11, 2019 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of September 2019 stood at 10,923 units against the production of 9,090 units, a monthly report by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer's Association (PAMA) revealed on Friday.

This translated into an increase of 19.7 percent on a monthly basis and a decline of 35.6 percent on a yearly basis.

The maximum number of sales were made within the category of ‘below 1000cc’ engine, at 5,793 units. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the maximum sales at 4,924 units.

Within the ‘1300cc and above’ category, nearly 2,480 units were sold wherein Toyota Corolla made the highest sales at 1,795, followed by Honda cars which sold 1,368 units.

With respect to ‘1000cc’ category, Suzuki Cultus sold 1,101 units, whereas Suzuki WagonR sold 680 units.

The total number of trucks sold during the month declined by nearly 4.6 percent MoM at 228 units. Similarly, truck sales dropped by around 57.7 percent YoY from 539 units sold in September last year.

Within this segment, Hino made the maximum sales at 130 units, while Isuzu took the second lead by selling 68 units during the said period.

The total number of Buses sales stood at 36 units, signifying a drop of 14.2 percent MoM and 28 percent YoY. The major sales within this category came from Hino as it sold 28 units.

Likewise, total number of jeeps sold during the period under review declined by 38.5 percent MoM at 182 units, while total number of tractors sold grew by 47.7 percent MoM at 3,761 units.

Lastly, the total number of two wheelers and three wheelers sold in September amounted to 126,141 units, i.e. 1.77 percent lower than sales in last month, and 23.8 percent lower than the sales in same month of last year.
