Sale of passenger cars declines by 43.19% in 1HFY20

January 13, 2020 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of December 2019 stood at 9,987, units against the production of 8,373 units, i.e. around 17.16% higher than the sales of the previous month and 38.12% lower than the sales recorded in the same month of the previous year.

According to a monthly report produced by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer's Association (PAMA), the overall sales during the first half of FY2020 were recorded at 59,097 units, which is around 43.19% lower as compared to the 104,038 units sold in last year.  

The maximum number of sales were made within the category of ‘below 1000cc’ engine, at 4,616 units in December and 28,145 units in 1HFY20. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the maximum sales at 3,700 units in December and 23,658 units in 1HFY20.

Within the ‘1300cc and above’ category, nearly 3,246 units were sold in December and 19,797 units in 1HFY20, wherein Toyota Corolla made the highest sales, followed by Honda cars and then Suzuki Swift.

On the contrary, the ‘1000cc’ category witnessed a sale of 2,125 units in December and 11,155 units in 1HFY20, wherein Suzuki WagonR made the highest sales at 1,207 units and 4,545 units in the respective periods.  

The total number of trucks sold during the month stood at 251 units, which translates into a decline of 23.9% as compared to previous month and 16.9% as compared to the same period of last year.

Similarly, the cumulative truck sales in the first six months of ongoing Fiscal year amounted to 1,691 units, i.e. 47.5% lesser than the sales made in previous year.

Quite surprisingly, Isuzu made the highest sale of trucks during the month by selling around 146 units during December and 777 units in 1HFY20. Hino followed the lead with sales of 90 units during the month and 716 units during the first six month of FY2020.

The total number of Buses sales stood at 61 units, signifying a growth of 15.09% over the previous month and a decline of 63.9% over the same period of last year. Likewise, the total sales made during the fiscal year totaled 373 units, which is around 31.6% lower than the previous year.
