Rabbani refers NBP promotion issue to Senate body

Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Thursday referred the promotion issue in National Bank of Pakistan to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance with directions to report on it within 30 days.

He made these directions after statement of State Minister for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal in response to a Calling Attention Notice in Senate about the NBP promotion policy 2016-17 causing great unrest among the employees of the Bank.

Earlier, the minister said that 2,335 NBP employees have been promoted in 2016-17 as promotion list contained names 7029 employees. He said that four-member and seven-member boards considered the promotion cases of senior and junior level officers respectively.

The minister said that this matter was agitated in Select Committees of Senate and National Assembly while meeting was held at NBP Headquarters in Karachi to review this particular issue.

He said that right to appeal has been given to the employees having any concern about this promotion policy.

The Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said it seems there has been some anomalies in the process. He referred the matter to the Standing Committee on Finance with the directions to submit report on it within 30 days.
