October 26, 2023 (MLN): A complaint has been filed by Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) against Pakistan Television (PTV) for allegedly hiring three anchors without any advertisement and open competition, with a substantial monthly salary of Rs750,000 each on a contract basis for a period of three years.

The complaint alleges that the hiring is done on favoritism and is against the Supreme Court of Pakistan orders and the Cabinet Secretariat (Establishment Division) Management Position Scales Policy, 2020/2021.

To note, the Management Position Scales Policy, 2020/2021, determines the procedure for making appointments of highly skilled/qualified professionals from the open market on a tenure basis (contract) against MP Scale positions in Ministries / Divisions.

TIP contends that this recruitment will result in PTV incurring a total cost of Rs81 million over the three-year period, which is considered a significant financial loss to the national exchequer as the recruitment procedure is devoid of any rules and regulations.

TIP has requested the Managing Director of PTV to examine the allegations and if found correct, issue directives for the cancellation of the recruitment order and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
