PSX Closing Bell: It’s a Mad World

May 20, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 118,971.12, showing a decrease of 718.51 points or 0.60%.

The index traded in a range of 1,373.28 points, showing an intraday high of 119,900.37 (+210.74) and a low of 118,527.09 (-1,162.54) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 108.11 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 40 closed up, 57 closed down, while 3 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were KTML (-5.90%), AGL (-3.49%), TPLRF1 (-3.05%), LOTCHEM (-2.92%), and MUGHAL (-2.81%).

On the other hand, top gainers were POML (+9.82%), PABC (+3.37%), BNWM (+2.96%), HMB (+2.88%), and PIOC (+2.49%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were FFC (-106.78pts), UBL (-88.80pts), HBL (-72.59pts), PPL (-60.40pts), and ENGROH (-56.70pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were HMB (+40.05pts), DGKC (+22.56pts), MEBL (+21.75pts), PIOC (+18.25pts), and MLCF (+17.18pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks (-212.08pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-165.53pts), Fertilizer (-95.36pts), Technology & Communication (-78.30pts), and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-67.47pts).

While the index was supported by Cement (+37.23pts), Leather & Tanneries (+14.59pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+13.30pts), Refinery (+12.10pts), and Miscellaneous (+11.47pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 73,878.89 with a net loss of 309.37 points or 0.42%.

Total market volume was 437.92 million shares compared to 425.37m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs20.81 billion showing a decrease of Rs1.46bn.

There were 279,685 trades reported in 473 companies with 177 closing up, 232 closing down, and 64 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 40,526 points or 51.66% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 3,844 points or 3.34% so far this calendar year.
