PSX Closing Bell: I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again

April 08, 2025 (MLN): Reeling from yesterday's high volatility, the local bourse rebounded today as the benchmark KSE-100 index concluded Tuesday’s trading session at 115,532.43, marking a gain of 622.95 points or 0.54%.

The index remained in positive territory throughout the day, recording an intraday high of 116,692.29 (+1,782.81 points) and a low of 115,560.90 (+651.42 points).

It clawed back some ground in the morning, jumping 1,446.31 points or 1.26% shortly after the opening bell — a sign that value hunters remain optimistic despite global headwinds.

Traders at the PSX reportedly responded to domestic cues and the anticipation of economic initiatives aimed at cushioning the economy against external shocks.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 338.91 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 74 closed up, 24 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were CNERGY (+7.28%), LUCK (+6.65%), AGL (+6.36%), INIL (+5.89%), and MARI (+5.05%).

On the other hand, top losers were SRVI (-7.24%), UBL (-3.52%), TPLRF1 (-2.71%), SYS (-2.15%), and EFERT (-1.97%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were LUCK (+283.26pts), MARI (+261.04pts), MEBL (+55.42pts), BAHL (+44.47pts), and BAFL (+43.60pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were UBL (-276.27pts), EFERT (-78.37pts), SYS (-63.55pts), FFC (-58.63pts), and SRVI (-53.84pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Cement (+380.60pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+290.69pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (+57.58pts), Chemical (+47.17pts), and Pharmaceuticals (+45.58pts).

While the index was let down by Commercial Banks (-180.43pts), Fertilizer (-99.54pts), Leather & Tanneries (-53.84pts), Technology & Communication (-51.62pts), and Modarabas (-0.84pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 72,139.47 with a net gain of 712.28 points or 1.00%.

Total market volume was 530.69 million shares compared to 710.79m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs33.68 billion showing a decrease of Rs9.35bn.

There were 294,977 trades reported in 453 companies with 273 closing up, 126 closing down, and 54 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 37,087 points or 47.28% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 406 points or 0.35% so far this calendar year.
