PSX, ACCA join hands to promote financial literacy in Pakistan

February 21, 2023 (MLN): Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation on financial literacy and inclusion, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), CPEC verticals, investment management, IPOs, and social entrepreneurship.

The MoU aims to benefit the capital markets and market participants by increasing cooperation between ACCA and PSX for their own capacity building, as well as that of other stakeholders in terms of financial literacy, inclusion, ESG, CPEC verticals, and investment management.

According to the press statement, workshops and webinars will be held to disseminate information on PSX’s mandate and scope of activities. Additionally, mentorship opportunities will be available for start-ups to guide them on their financial activities and enhance their financial capabilities.

ACCA President Joseph Owolabi stated that the MoU would provide an opportunity for positive change for the youth and contribute to Pakistan's promising future. He emphasized that mutual commitment to promoting financial inclusion was key to individual empowerment while also driving sustainable, inclusive economic growth.

Head of ACCA Pakistan, Assad Hameed Khan, stated that this partnership would serve as an outreach and opportunities platform for young professionals to upskill and understand their professional role in developing the capital markets of Pakistan.

The MoU also allows for the development of a joint calendar and organization of events and activities for their stakeholder networks. This partnership is expected to play a significant role in promoting financial literacy and inclusion in Pakistan, enhancing the country's economic growth and development.
