PM appoints Khurram Schehzad as Advisor to FM on Economic & Financial Reforms

November 21, 2024 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Mr Khurram Schehzad as the Advisor to the Federal Minister on Economic and Financial Reforms (SPPS-I), according to the notification issued by the Finance Division. 

This appointment, effective immediately, has been made on a contractual basis for a tenure of two years, subject to standard terms and conditions.

Mr. Schehzad will serve under the Finance Division, with a focus on spearheading critical economic and financial reforms at a pivotal time for the country.

Khurram Schehzad is a young Investment Banker and Economic Policy Advisor with over 20 years of highly progressive career with proven Board-level governance, leadership, management, advisory and strategy experience, coupled with the aptitude to train and lead strong teams in professional work environments.

He is an avid Finance, Economics and INvestment professional and an accomplished individual who has served in various leadership roles at bulge-bracket investment groups and platforms in both Public and Private sectors across key financial disciplines, including Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, PE VC, Portfolio Advisory, Economic and Investment Research, Asset Management, Restructuring and Privatisation, and Strategic Investment Policy and Reforms.

Mr. Schehzad is also an Entrepreneur, running Pakistan’s award-winning Investment Banking & Strategy Advisory platform which is expanding its footprint across the region and globally as well.

The roles he served have helped him turn into a strategic advisor and refined his persuasive communications and resourceful execution capabilities while advising institutional investors, globally.

Mr. Schehzad has comprehensively developed and managed economic, financial and investment teams, who not only mastered various aspects of finance, business and economy, building bespoke strategies for a diverse client base (both local & global) but also consistently delivered high-value to both the public and the private sectors.

It is important to note that he also served as the youngest member on the Board of the Privatisation Commission as well as the Board of Investment between FY14 and FY23, and has recently been reappointed to the PC Board.

Besides being the Youngest on public sector boards, he got accolades, ranging from amongst top-ranked analysts in Pakistan between 2008 and 2012 (CFA Society, Bloomberg, Asiamoney).

He was part of the privatisation deal teams who were awarded i) Best Secondary Placement & Best Privatisation Award 2015 ii) Issuer of the Year Award, and iii) Best Deal of the Year award.   

Khurram is an MBA with a major in Finance, with a distinction of 'Gold Medalist' (Magna cum Laude). He is also a CFA Finalist (Level-3 Candidate). He is also a Certified Director from the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG).

He has been a Member of the Global Advisory Council of the Harvard Business Review (HBR). He is also certified in various disciplines from the Institute of Financial Markets of Pakistan (IFMP) and others, including equities, fixed income/bonds and private equity. Mr. Schehzad plans for his PhD in 2026.
