PKR weakens by 5 paisa against USD

May 21, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) decreased by 4.80 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 281.97 per USD, compared to the previous closing of 281.92.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 281.95 and a low (ask) of 281.95.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 282.50 for buying and 284 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR deteriorated 1.75 rupees or 0.55% against the Euro, closing at 319.38 compared to the previous value of 317.64.

Against the British Pound, PKR fell by 72.68 paisa or 0.19% to 378.08 compared to 377.35 a day ago.

The local unit depreciated 3.39 rupees or 1.00% against Swiss franc to close at 342.07.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value depreciated 0.50 paisa or 0.26% to close the session at 1.9589 versus 1.9539 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee fell 8.11 paisa or 0.21% against Chinese Yuan to close at 39.12 from 39.04.

The local currency decreased by 1.08 paisa or 0.01% against Saudi Riyal to 75.18. While it deteriorated by 1.41 paisa or 0.02% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.77.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has deteriorated against the US Dollar by 3.63 rupees or 1.29%. While it has fell 3.42 rupees or 1.21% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remain unchanged at 11.14% and 11.39%.
