Pakistan’s external debt obligations stand at $24.6bn for FY24

December 13, 2023 (MLN): Pakistan's external debt obligations for the Fiscal Year 2024 stand at $24.6 billion, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)'s governor said in the post-MPC meeting on Tuesday.
Of this amount, $20.7bn is the principal, while $3.9bn accounts for interest.
Around $5.4bn has been repaid from this amount, which included a $4bn principal and $1.4bn interest payment.
Accordingly, the remaining debt stands at $19.2bn, of which $12.4bn is expected to be rolled over (with $9.3bn confirmed), he said.
This leaves a net total remaining amount of $6.8bn, comprising of $4.3bn principal and $2.5bn interest payment for the remaining seven months of the fiscal year.
On the funding front, the existing foreign exchange reserves stand at only about $7bn.
