Pakistani imports plummet by 11.04% MoM

October 17, 2018 (MLN): Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has recently published a report on External Trade Statistics for the month of September 2018, stating that imports into Pakistan during the said month amounted to Rs. 549,708 million (provisional) as against Rs. 617,949 million (provisional) in August 2018 and Rs. 467,454 million during September 2017 showing a decrease of 11.04% over August 2018 but an increase of 17.6% over September 2017.

In terms of US dollars the imports in September 2018 was $4,430 million (provisional) as compared to $4,992 million (provisional) in August 2018 showing a decrease of 11.25% and by 0.18% as compared to $4,438 million in September 2017.

Imports during July-September 2018 totaled Rs. 1,769,243 million (provisional) as against Rs. 1,492,829 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 18.52%.

In terms of US dollars the imports during July-September 2018 totaled $14,260 million (provisional) as against $14,170 million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 0.63%.

Main commodities of imports during September 2018 were Petroleum products (Rs.64,702 million), Petroleum crude (Rs.39,929 million), Natural Gas Liquefied (Rs. 34,837 million), Iron & steel (Rs.21,861 million), Palm oil (Rs.21,088 million), Plastic materials (Rs.20,714 million), Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs.16,185 million), Iron & steel scrap (Rs.14,802 million), Power Generating Machinery (Rs.13,074 million) and Fertilizer manufactured (Rs.12,609 million).
