Pakistan Railways posts profits of Rs 4.416 billion

Pakistan Railway reported earnings worth Rs 4.416 billion annually, the numbers were presented to National Assembly on Monday. Pakistan Railways had outsourced the operations for four commercial passenger trains last year. The passenger trains reported a profit worth Rs 1.761 billion before they were outsourced and started operating under public-private partnership.

Responding to a question regarding privatization, Parliamentary Secretary, Deewan Ashiq  Hussain  said PR had not privatized any passenger train since 2012. He said that Pakistan Railways last year had outsourced operations for four passenger trains; Night Coach, Hazara Express, Fareed Express and Shalimar Express were being operated via public private partnership.

The secretary informed the parliament that Pakistan Railway imported a total of 55 D.E. Locomotives of 4000 H.P. form General Electric (G.E.), USA. He said that 32 locomotives have been delivered to Pakistan whereas 23 were expected to reach by July, 2017. He also told the assembly that 5 local locomotives were made in Risalpur Locomotive Factory this year which were utilized by PR in the same period.
