December 19, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan and Indonesia aim to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in economic and commercial areas, with Indonesia’s support for Pakistan's desire to become a Full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.

These statement was made by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during a meeting with H.E Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo.

Prime Minister congratulated H.E Prabowo on assuming the office of the President and discussed a wide range of issues, including political, trade, and economic matters, as well as cooperation at multilateral forums.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s deep interest in engaging with ASEAN and its members, as per the press release issued on Thursday.

Shehbaz Sharif further said that Pakistan appreciates Indonesia’s support in achieving Sectoral Partner Status in ASEAN and membership of ASEAN Regional Forum.

He noted that Indonesia was a reliable trade partner of Pakistan, particularly as palm oil supplier, as Pakistan relies on imports to meet its vegetable oil needs.

He also extended an invitation to President Prabowo Subianto to visit Pakistan at his early convenience. The Indonesian President graciously accepted the invitation.

Both the leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

They urged for a comprehensive approach to resolve the Palestinian question, with the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine, with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
