Metal Imports down by more than 14 Percent

According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), total Metal imports during the month of April clocked in at $457.878 million; posting a decline of 14.29 percent from March’s imports of $534.225 million.

Compared to that, year on year growth in the metal imports went up by more than 6 percent during the month of April. The total imports during the month of April 2018 against April 2017 grew by $29.830 million.

Metals imported to Pakistan mainly include Gold, scrapped Iron and steel, Iron and Steel, wrought and worked Aluminum and other metals and artificial.

The major chunk of imports under the Metal group was mainly from the Iron and steel which contributed a total of 47.30 percent of the entire imports. Total Iron and Steel imported during the month of April, 2018 clocked in by $216.563 million grew from $197.091 million same month last year.

The other major chunk of imports under the Metal head was mainly from the scrapped Iron and steel which contributed a total of 30.68 percent of the entire imports. Total scrapped Iron and Steel imported during the month of April, 2018 clocked in by $140.459 million grew from $115.399 million same month last year.

Furthermore, year on year imports in other Metal and artificial went down by 17.83 percent during April, 2018 with a month on month decrease by 23.5 percent. Other metal and artificial clocked in at $78.902 million for the month of April, 2018.

Wrought and worked aluminum imports clocked in at $19.693 million, grew by 17.25 percent to $16.796 million during the period April 2017.
