KSE-100 hits historic high, surges past 119,000 mark

March 20, 2025 (MLN): The KSE-100 Index made history in Thursday’s intraday session, reaching an all-time high of 119,132.95 points at 10:13 AM, gaining 1,158.93 points from the previous close.
This bullish run is primarily attributed to the optimism surrounding progress on the IMF program. Investors remain optimistic about the government's successful engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is expected to unlock further financial support and policy reforms.
Positive signals regarding the government's commitment to tackling circular debt have strengthened investor sentiment, particularly in the energy and banking sectors have also charged bull to reach new highs.
In addition, expectations of further inflation decline are also fueling buying activity.
Leading the charge were MARI (+7.10%), KTML (+5.69%), NPL (+4.78%), EFUG (+3.68%), and NCPL (+3.65%), while PGLC (-4.24%), PSEL (-1.41%), PTC (-1.31%), TRG (-1.01%), and NESTLE (-0.98%) saw declines.
Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+503.58pts), Fertilizer (+213.82pts), Cement (+109.74pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+106.82pts), and Commercial Banks (+80.92pts).
While the index was let down by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-40.12pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (-0.73pts), Synthetic & Rayon (-0.14pts), Close-End Mutual Fund (+0.00pts), and Modarabas (+0.00pts).
