KP sets targets for hydropower project completion

May 23, 2025 (MLN): The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has set the timely and quality completion of multiple small and large-scale hydropower projects as a key priority to fully utilize the province’s considerable hydropower potential, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur stated.

Presiding over a meeting of the Energy and Power Department, the Chief Minister emphasized that financial progress on these projects must reach 100% by the end of the current fiscal year, alongside meeting physical progress targets as scheduled.

The government is committed to providing the necessary financial resources on a priority basis to ensure this, as APP reported.

During the meeting, which included relevant cabinet members, the Additional Chief Secretary for Planning and Development, and other officials, a detailed briefing was given on the financial and physical progress of projects under the Annual Development Program managed by the Energy and Power Department.

Ali Amin Khan Gandapur highlighted the importance of the under-construction Balakot Hydropower Project and directed that measures be taken to supply electricity from this project to local industries once operational.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of advancing the solarization project, calling it a flagship initiative of the current provincial government.

He ordered the prompt removal of any obstacles hindering the project’s progress and mandated strict compliance with prevailing laws and regulations during implementation.

Furthermore, Gandapur instructed that unnecessary delays be avoided, and that transparency and merit be fully upheld throughout the execution of both hydropower and solar projects.
