KE seeks Rs5bn adjustment as NEPRA holds hearing

February 26, 2025 (MLN): K-Electric (KE) sought clearance for outstanding adjustments worth Rs5 billion as The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) held a hearing on K-Electric’s (KE) monthly fuel adjustment request for December.

According to KE, these dues stem from partial load, open-cycle operations, and startup costs, urging authorities to approve the Rs5bn payment.

However, KE consumers strongly opposed the request, demanding that the full benefit of fuel adjustment relief be passed on to the public.

Consumers also expressed concerns over persistent load shedding in commercial areas of Karachi and the non-implementation of the Industrial Support Package in the city, as per the press release.

NEPRA officials noted that KE has challenged the Industrial Support Package in court, preventing its implementation in Karachi.

Meanwhile, KE reported that in December, it generated electricity at Rs18.60 per unit from its own sources, while the power it received from CPPA cost Rs9.60 per unit.

Following the hearing, NEPRA has reserved its decision, stating that the authority will review the data before issuing a final verdict.
