July 21, 2022 (MLN): The federal government will likely appoint the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) next week, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail informed while addressing a press conference on Thursday.

The government is putting its all-out efforts to expand the volume of exports and reduce the import bill. However, the essential products are being imported so that industries would not face any shortages of an essential input, he added.

Talking about the availability of fuel in the country, he stated that the country has an ample amount of petrol and diesel which is enough for sixty days.

“Due to the measures taken by the present government, the economy is on the right track,” he said.

Pertaining to the freefall of local currency, he was of the view that the rupee will start gaining its ground back in the next month.

To note, the local unit plummeted by Rs50.29 or 22.18% against the USD in CYTD, while it registered a decline of 9.68% against the greenback in MTD.
