April 23, 2025 (MLN): The government is taking significant measures to broaden and deepen the tax base, as highlighted by the Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, during a panel discussion on “Revenue Mobilization in the Medium Term” organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the 2025 Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.

The Finance Minister emphasized efforts to enhance the contribution of agriculture, real estate, retail, and wholesale sectors in line with their share in the national GDP.

He outlined plans to transform the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) through improvements in people, processes, and technology, as well as reducing the interface between taxpayers and tax collectors.

He also spoke about strengthening enforcement and compliance, and implementing customized audits using artificial intelligence (AI), as per the press release.

Aurangzeb underscored the importance of building trust between the tax collecting agency and the people.
