Govt introduces policy to transition 30% vehicles to electric by 2030

November 21, 2024 (MLN): The government on Wednesday announced the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) policy aimed at transitioning 30% of all new vehicles in Pakistan to electric by 2030.

Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan while addressing the ''Transport and Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond" session at COP29 in Baku said that Pakistan aims to convert 30% of its vehicles to electric by 2030.

He said work has already begun to promote EVs in Pakistan.

Aleem Khan added that work is also being done to provide charging stations and other necessities for electric vehicles, said a press release.

The minister said the first fleet of biomethane hybrid buses in Karachi would save 100% of fuel and that there is an option for a public-private partnership for the National Green Transport Project.
