April 22, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan reaffirmed its strong commitment to environmental protection and climate resilience on the occasion of World Earth Day 2025, as stated by Federal Minister for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Senator Musadik Masood Malik.

He stated that this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” serves as a reminder that the solutions to climate change are within our reach.

It is a call to action to move away from fossil fuels and adopt clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower.

The minister underlined that Pakistan, being on the frontlines of climate change, continues to face devastating floods, prolonged droughts, heatwaves, and glacial melt.

He stressed that Earth Day is an opportunity to reflect on these challenges and accelerate collective efforts involving government, civil society, youth, and the private sector.

Highlighting the proactive stance of the present government, he said that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination is leading initiatives to promote clean energy, environmental sustainability, and climate-smart development.

These include the implementation of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Policy, expansion of solar energy under the Roshan Pakistan initiative, off-grid energy solutions for underserved rural areas, a Green Stimulus Package to create green jobs, and the rollout of the National Electric Vehicle Policy.

The government is also working closely with provinces to integrate climate-friendly planning at the grassroots level.

Minister of State for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, also shared her message on the occasion.

She emphasized that from promoting reforestation and smart agriculture to accelerating clean mobility and renewable energy, Pakistan is committed to building a cleaner and more sustainable future.

She urged citizens to mark Earth Day with practical actions planting trees, conserving water, reducing plastic use, and supporting green policies.

Every small step, she said, contributes to achieving environmental sustainability, according to the press release.

Dr. Shezra further called on communities, policymakers, and stakeholders to unite behind the government’s ongoing climate initiatives, aimed at conserving vital natural resources particularly water, forests, soil, and air.

She concluded by emphasizing that with awareness, innovation, and collective will, Pakistan has the power to restore the planet and secure a better future for coming generations.
