August 28, 2024 (MLN): While assuring long-term solutions for problems related to gemstone cutting, certification, laboratories, and export, Chairman Steering Committee and Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also promised serious consideration of the proposal to grant industry status to the Gems and Stones sector.
These discussions took place during an important session of the Prime Minister’s Steering Committee for Gemstones held yesterday.
Various suggestions for addressing the sector's challenges were explored, aiming to improve market availability.
The Steering Committee held a detailed session with private institutions of good reputation related to the business of Games Stones and listened their issues.
It was agreed that before finalizing the recommendations, the next meeting will be convened on a larger scale to ensure the participation of all stakeholders.
Federal Minister for Petroleum Musadaq Malik also attended that meeting and said that all related institution should be taken into confidence to make solution of the problems of Gems and Stones sector.
Heads and representatives of different organizations related to the Gems and Stones Salman Hanif, Izhar Zuberi, Akhtar Khan Tesuri, Amina Gilani and Nadia Chauhtani from the private sector participated and expressed their views in the Steering Committee meeting.
Chairman Steering Committee and Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan while talking in the meeting said that we have to make maximum efforts to get benefit from the natural blessings like minerals and Game Stones in Pakistan.
He added that institutions with international reputation must be taken onboard and their input will ultimately help to resolve the present issues.
He said that the local people and institutions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should also be encouraged for more and more participation in the Gems and Stones.
Federal Minister and Chairman Steering Committee Abdul Aleem Khan further said that to lead the country on the path of prosperity and end the darkness of despair, we must play our role as much as possible. Federal Minister said that the private sector has been taken on board and soon final meeting will be called before presenting recommendations to the Prime Minister.
On this occasion, the representatives of the private sector expressed their gratitude to the Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan for trusting on them regarding Games Stones Policy and assured their full cooperation to take coordinated steps for the exploration, marketing and export of precious stones.
