March 2, 2020 (MLN): The total Foreign Investment in Treasury bills (T-Bills) during July 1, 2019 till February 28, 2020 recorded at USD 3.09 billion, this led the overall Foreign Investment to arrive at $3.075 billion, revealed State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)’s latest data.
During the period mentioned above, total inflows in only T-bills amounted to $3.41 billion wherein inflows of $2.32 billion came from United Kingdom (UK) and $892 million from the United States (USA).
As per the data, in the month of February, foreigners invested $499 million in T-bills, in which $327 million came from the UK and $142 million from UAE.
On the other hand, in the single session on February 28, 2020, there was an outflow of $66.98 million from T-bills in which UK and USA divested $41.3 million and $25.68 million respectively.
Meanwhile, inflows in PIBs from July 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 amounted to $60.48 million. Within the same time period, the inflows from UK stood at around $25 million and from Luxembourg at $24.67 million.
With regards to equity investment, inflows in the said period were recorded at $609 million while outflows stood at $694 million, showing that foreigners divested net amount of $84 million from Pakistan’s capital market.
