Pakistan is the agricultural country and the main export earning either comes from the textile sector or the food sector. The food group’s exports are the highest in the month of March 2018 in preceding five years.

The Food products export from the country during the month of current financial year incline by 34.56 percent on month on month basis and 70.73 percent respectively as compared to the corresponding period of fiscal year.

The data revealed that the biggest composition in the export of Food products is Rice which occupies more than 39 percent of the export of Food group. In rice, more than 22 percent of Basmati rice exported this month. It is the highest export recorded in previous five years. Rice export has increased by 19.73 percent on month on basis whereas more than 69 percent has increased relatively as compared to the corresponding period of the fiscal year.

The data revealed that the second biggest composition in the export of Food products is Sugar which occupies more than 14 percent of the export of Food group. Its export rises 61.23 percent on month on month basis therefore it has increased by 44 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the fiscal year.

According to the data published at Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, The third major composition in the export earning is occupied by the Fish and Fish preparations. It contributes 8.72 percent in the export earning of food related products. This month’s exports are the highest in five years. It is increased by 48.71 percent on month on month basis and comparing to the corresponding period it is increased by 42.67 percent.

The two products who doesn’t have enough composition in the export earnings and there exports have also been decreased are Oil, seeds, Nuts and Kernels and Tobacco. They occupy of about 0.46 and 0.18 percent in the export earnings obtained from food exports. Oil, seeds, Nuts and Kernels decreased by 51.17 percent for the corresponding period of the fiscal year whereas more than 6 percent have decreased on monthly basis. Tobacco decreased by 54.94 percent for the corresponding period of the fiscal year and 36.64 percent of tobacco increased on monthly basis.

According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, about 462,154 metric tons of rice cost US$ 232.68 million exported as compared to the exports of 286,224 metric tons worth US$ 137.52 million of same period of last year.  

Moreover, about 249,416 metric tons of sugar is exported in the month of March 2018 which sums up to US$ 83.172 million whereas 107,558 metric tons of sugar is exported worth US$ 57.741 million of corresponding period of fiscal year.
