Fiscal deficit widens to 1.4% of GDP in 1QFY19

November 23, 2018 (MLN): The fiscal deficit during the first quarter of fiscal year 2019, has widened to 1.4% of the GDP, as it has been recorded at Rs.541 billion, according to sources within the Ministry of Finance.

During the corresponding period of last year, the fiscal deficit had widened to 1.2% of GDP, logging in at Rs.440 billion.

During the recently ended quarter, principle and interest payment amounted to Rs.507 billion, while last year’s payments accounted for Rs.445 billion.

Furthermore, defense expenditure has increased to Rs.219 billion during July to September 2018, while last year it totaled at Rs.182 billion.

The total revenue and expenses for July- September 2018 has amounted to Rs.1.1 trillion and Rs.1.643 trillion respectively.
