FDI inches up by 6% YoY in May

June 20, 2023 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan stood at $149.6 million in May 2023, registering an increase of 6% YoY and 23% MoM compared to $141.2m in May 2022 and $121.6m in April 2023, the latest data issued by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $178m, up by 20.8% MoM and 6.4% YoY, while the outflow stood at $28.4m, up by over 10.6% MoM and 8.6% YoY.

The foreign private investment into the country rose by 6.07% MoM to clock in at $135.5m in May 2023.

Meanwhile, a negative $1m was recorded under the foreign public investment during the review month.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month inched up by 4.33% MoM to clock in at $134.5m, compared to $128.9m in April 2023.

Within 11MFY23, FDI decreased by 20.7% YoY to $1.32bn as compared to FDI of $1.66bn reported in the corresponding period last year.
