FBR sets deadlines for businesses to adopt electronic invoicing

April 28, 2025 (MLN):The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established deadlines for businesses to integrate their operations with the FBR’s computerized system for electronic invoicing.

Under Notification S.R.O. 709(I)/2025, registered corporate entities must electronically integrate their hardware and software with FBR’s computerized system by May 1, 2025.

Non-corporate registered entities are required to complete the integration by June 1, 2025.

This move is part of the FBR's initiative to streamline the process of generating and transmitting electronic invoices.

The new rules are an extension of the previously issued SRO 1525, which initially applied only to the FMCG sector.

The FBR has now extended the integration requirement to all businesses, broadening the scope beyond FMCGs to include the entire taxpayer community.

The integration process, as outlined in Rule 150Q of the Sales Tax Rules 2006, aims to modernize and improve tax compliance and transparency in the country’s business transactions.

The deadline for corporate entities is set for May 2025, and for non-corporate entities, the deadline is June 2025.
