May 23, 2024 (MLN): Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has rejected the media reports claiming that the government is planning to end solar net-metering policy.

The minister’s remarks come amid rumors circulating in the media that the government had committed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to replace net-metering with a new gross-metering policy.

The minister debunked these reports while speaking at a press conference at the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) headquarters.

He said the government welcomes investment in solar power.

Awais Ahmad assured, “There is no such policy that has been introduced that is going to change any conditions for net-metering owners or the distribution companies (DISCOs) so far.”

He added that in the future, if there is a need for any change in the policy, it would be done in a responsible way and after taking all stakeholders into confidence.
