Dar sworn in as finance minister

September 28, 2022 (MLN): Senator Ishaq Dar was sworn in as finance minister today replacing the outgoing Miftah Ismail, the Prime Minister Office said in a statement.
Miftah is a seasoned politician and chartered accountantand it will be his fourth stint as finance minister of the country.
Dar accompanied PM Shahbaz Sharif on Monday returning to Pakistan after a period of five years of self-exile in the United Kingdom.
Talking to reporters upon his arrival at Nurkhan airbase in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, Dar said that "I will try my best to fulfill all the responsibilities. We will try to take out the country from the economic swamp it is stuck in [...] the way we did in 1998-1999 and 2013-2014."
Dar took oath as senator on Tuesday amid opposition protest.
Dar will become the country's sixth finance minsiter since general elections were held in 2018.
