Committee decides to import 100,000 tons of urea

November 6, 2018: Fertilizer Review Committee here has decided to immediately import 100,000 tons of Urea to avoid any potential shortage during the Rabi season 2018-19.

Decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of the Fertilizer Review Committee which, took place to review demand and supply position and stock availability of urea fertilizer for current sowing season.

After a detailed deliberations, the meeting recommended to immediately import 100,000 tons urea to ensure smooth supply of urea to growers as well as to avoid any possible shortage during the season.

In order to maintain the prices of the commodity in the local markets, provincial governments were also asked to play their role to discourage the hording of fertilizers and any possible price hike across the country.

The meeting further decided that all operational fertilizer plants would be kept operational to ensure optimal production and availability of fertilizer in the country.

Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production Azher Ali Choudhry chaired the meeting, whereas all representatives of fertilizer manufacturing plants attended the meeting. 

Among others, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production, Managing Director National Fertilizers Marketing Limited (NFML), senior officials of the ministries of finance, petroleum and commerce divisions attended the meeting.
